What Is Kanna Extract?
Updated: Sep 23
Kanna (sceletium tortuosum) is a botanical supplement from South Africa-
having been used for centuries. Today, kanna is gaining widespread recognition as a natural alternative for those seeking mental clarity and emotional balance. You can commonly find Kanna in form of tincture, loose leaf tea, and powdered extracts. The Science Behind Kanna
Kanna contains a distinctive group of alkaloids, primarily mesembrine, mesembrenone, and mesembrenol. Researchers are studying how these compounds interact with the brain's serotonin system. People who try kanna often describe a calm, upbeat, social feeling.
Studies suggest that kanna may help:
A relaxed, easygoing feeling
A clear-headed, talkative mood
Promote relaxation without drowsiness
Improve social ease and emotional well-being
The next time you come in for a drink at Roots Kava Bar, don't be surprised if we ask if you would like kanna with it! Sourcing Kanna can be hard, and often sources can be unreliable, or sell you the wrong thing. We only use Kanna from Healing Herbals Store.
