Visit Roots Kava Bar in Port Jefferson

An alcohol-free lounge in the middle of Port Jefferson village. Roots is at 250 East Main Street, in the heart of Port Jefferson, walkable from the harbour, the ferry terminal and the Main Street shops. It is a lounge rather than a counter: there is seating, there are outlets, and there is room to sit with friends for a couple of hours without anyone moving you along.

What we serve. Espresso, americanos, lattes, cappuccinos and flat whites, hot or iced. Cold brew and iced coffee. Ceremonial-grade matcha, whisked to order. Herbal teas. Specialty lattes, including the Zen Latte, matcha with oat milk, vanilla and agave. Canned beverages. Oat milk, almond milk and dairy, no upcharge games. Small lattes are $4.95, large are $6.75, matcha is $6.50 and herbal teas are $4.50. Everything is made to order at the bar.

Open when the rest of the village is closed. Most coffee places in Port Jefferson close in the afternoon. We stay open into the evening, seven days a week, which makes us the default for anyone who wants an espresso at 8pm instead of 8am. Students from Stony Brook, remote workers, people meeting before or after dinner, and anyone waiting on a ferry all end up here for the same reason. Happy Hour runs every day from 4pm to 7pm.

Nothing we pour contains alcohol. There is no alcohol in the building. Groups almost always have at least one person who is not drinking, and here nobody has to explain themselves or get handed a soda while everyone else gets something interesting. Every drink on the list is made with the same care, and everyone drives home.
